DVD Review: Transformers 2-disc Special Edition |

You will notice that when we do DVD reviews now, they will be more laid back. Not as structured I suppose. The way we are going to handle them, is that I will give you what I thought of the disc and Eric will give you his take as well. So without further ado here is what I thought of the Transformers 2 –Disc Special Edition which is available from Paramount Home Entertainment on October 16, 2007. Jason's Review I had seen the film in the theatres so I pretty much new what to expect when I put the movie into my DVD drive. I remember when watching it I had said that I could spend 2 hours just watching the Transformers transform. I didn’t remember too much about the plot. So after watching the movie again, I found that it is one of those movies that I got a better appreciation for watching a second time. I think Michael Bay has crafted a beautiful looking film. I will say it’s one of those movies that you just shut your brain off and have fun. I am not one of those people who were offended by any of the changes Bay made, like giving Optimus flames. I remember watching the show as a kid, but it has been so long since I seen the cartoon that I would not remember any of the changes anyways. I thought the movie was great and a lot of fun. Even my wife who I made watch the film liked it. It’s got action, humour, and amazing CGI. What’s not to love? |

| This is one of the best looking standard def discs you’re going to see. The transfer is immaculate. Everything looks sharp and colourful and you’re getting your moneys worth with this transfer. This is the movie your going to pull out to impress your friends. The audio is insane as well. I guess I should not be surprised with that fact since it is a Michael Bay film. There are huge explosions, and it feels like the robots are basically stomping there way through your living room. Again this disc will be the one you pull out to show off your surround sound system. I found the extras on the second disc really interesting. | ||||||

They show you a lot of information but none of it is boring. Michael Bay is apparently a difficult director to work with. I love the fact that when showing the special features that they did not ignore this fact and showed a couple of situations where he was being a bit of a jerk. This is the first set of special features that I have enjoyed all the way through in quite some time. It’s definitely worth picking up the 2-disc set. One other point I should probably include is that I liked that they had lots of clips of the old cartoon. I didn’t realise just how cheesy that show was, and it was nice that they included it. So I guess you understand that I really loved this DVD and it should be put on your must buy list. Pick it up on October 16th.

Eric's Review Having already seen this is the theater, I knew what to expect when Transformers came to DVD. I knew it would look great, sound even better, and remind me of how I enjoyed this movie so much. It did all those things, and more, with out even mentioning the Special Features DVD. I have to give both the audio and visual effects top marks since I was amazed at both, the sound coming through my own home theater at points I remember in the theater and of course all of the amazing special effects coming to life on my own screen. I am still amazed at how much detail was put into the actual robots themselves. |

The special features disc was also great, giving us a chance to see the other side of "blockbuster" film creation. The insight into CGI creation for the film as well all the time it took to actually portray what we see on the screen is simply unreal. There is alot of stuff to go through on this disc, and I found most of it interesting. This definitely makes the set more enjoyable. |
