Having recently just joined the millions of people who have an Ipod, the first thing I thought I would do is look into the many case options that are out there. I came across a company called Marware. They make many different cases for all of the Ipod's. Today I will be looking at the Sidewinder for the 3G Ipod Nano. This is a clear acrylic case that has one unique feature. It has a part that slides out that gives you a place to wrap your ear buds around. Opening up the package, Marware includes a bunch of extras with the case. You get a micro fiber cleaning cloth and a clear film protector for the screen and the click wheel. The case also has what they call the Multidapt clip base. It includes a belt clip, but from what I understand is that you can get other clips and they will all fit this case.

The case feels sturdy, there is a removable cover at the top and the Nano just slides into the case. This being my first Ipod case I wasn't 100% sure whether I needed to install the protective sheets over the screen and the click wheel. Looking at the case I knew that it would protect the screen, but I thought it was probably a good idea to install them anyway's. The clear film for the screen went on with no problems and it looked good when it was on. The little circle that is supposed to cover the click wheel select button would not stay on. I also installed the click wheel film and after I had them installed I proceeded to insert the ipod into the case. That was my first mistake. The one for the click wheel fell off and stuck to the inside of the clear case. It was difficult to get out because the case is so thin. I am not sure if I had the clear film applied right or not but it looked correct. I did manage to get it out but the sticker left some residue on the plastic and now if I am in the right light I can see it if the ipod is not on. So my advice would be not to put the click wheel one on, or maybe try to apply it once its in the case.

Next I thought I would talk about one of the more interesting features on the Sidewinder. Like I mentioned earlier there is a part of the case that slides out and allows you to wrap your ear buds around. This is a great idea. The only problem is that with the unit I received it's almost impossible to pull it out without breaking your finger! I am not sure if it's just the one I got or if it's just like this. I am sure that it will loosen up with repeated use, but it should not be that difficult to open. Ok so I have talked about the negatives, now let's talk about the positives. First off the case is really thin, so it doesn't add a lot of bulk to the Nano. Also I really like the belt clip that it comes with and being able to buy different clips and have them fit without a problem is also a good thing. I also like that it's clear because lets face it, you buy a certain colour Ipod and you don't want to cover that up. I had no problem using the click wheel while it's in the case. The edge around the click wheel is smooth and makes it very easy to manipulate the wheel. You have full access to the bottom of the Nano and plugging in the sync cable is not a problem nor is it a problem plugging in your headphones.

Overall I would recommend the Marware Sidewider. I think I would have highly recommended it if the part to wrap your ear buds on wasn't so difficult to move. But this case does what it's supposed to do and that's give you some protection for your beloved Ipod. You can pick this up directly from Marware for $24.99US.
