Product Review:

Invisible Shield for 3g Ipod Nano

I have been reviewing a lot of cases for the Ipod Nano.  But the one thing that has been bugging me is the fact that if I wanted to put my Ipod in a speaker dock I would have to take it out of the case.  Now correct me if I am wrong, but doesn’t that defeat the purpose of the case in the first place!  Well today I will be looking at a product that I first looked at back in the infancy of this website.  The name of that product was Invisible Shield.  If you go back and look at my review of the Invisible Shield for the Nintendo DS, you would read that I wasn’t completely satisfied with it because I had problems applying it.

Would it work out better this time with my Nano?  I was really hoping it would!  First thing I noticed when the product came in the mail was that they had definitely upgraded their packaging.  It definitely looked a lot more professional.  The product I got from them was the full body shield for the 3g Nano.  In the box you will find the application solution and a plastic squeegee.  I am not sure exactly whether to call them stickers, because they are so much more than that.  The material that you’re going to put on your Nano is a product that was originally developed by the military to protect the ends of helicopter blades.

The first thing I did was go to their website at www.shieldzone.com.  On the website they have an installation video.  This was very helpful to see how the product is applied.  After watching the video I headed upstairs to install the shield.

I will try to give you the process in a nutshell.  The first thing you have to do is wash your hands, because you don’t want any oil getting on the Ipod or the shield.  After that you start with the smallest parts of the shield and work your way up to the largest part.  You take the application solution and spray your finger tips and then spray the shield on both sides.  Then you line it up on the device and use the squeegee to get any of the water or bubbles out from underneath the shield.  You then use a lint free cloth to soak up the access water.  From there you continue the process I just talked about for the rest of the pieces.

Once you have applied all the pieces you should let the device sit for 24 hrs to set.  I was pretty happy with the way the front looked.  I wasn’t as concerned with the back.  About 12 hrs in I noticed there were a few small bubbles I must have missed!!  I went back to the website and they say that a lot of small bubbles will work themselves out after the product sets.

After 24 hr’s I was supremely impressed.  It barely looked like I had applied anything.  The only way you could tell something had been applied was if you put the Nano on an angle.  It’s been a few weeks now and it still looks as good as when I had first put it on.  I noticed that on the back I was a little off in alignment.  But it’s not enough to matter.

Now for the most important test.   I took the Ipod and plugged it into the Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere speakers.  Voila!  Fits like a glove.  So it appears that Invisible Shield has created the ultimate product for my Ipod Nano.

I think I had a better time of putting this shield on because there were no raised edges like on the DS.  If you have a DS and you want something that will protect your Ipod but still be able to fit in any speaker dock.  Go to www.shieldzone.com and pick up the full body shield for the Nano 3g.
