The Boynq iCube II speaker for the Ipod is a budget speaker system for the Ipod. When I first opened the package, I was amazed at how small it was. It really was a small cube. The first things I noticed were the styling. It has a real retro look to it. Almost like something out of the 30’s, but with a modern flair as well. On the front you have a large volume dial and two other dials for bass and treble. You turn the unit on by pressing the large volume dial and you get this really cool orange glow around the volume dial. This also illuminates the companies name in orange. The unit comes with cables that allow you to connect another audio device besides an Ipod. It also comes with dock adaptors for various Ipods, although there was not one for my 3G Nano. On the back of the unit you have a Line In, Line Out, Ipod USB connection and the power cable port. The Line In allows you to connect something like a shuffle which I think is a neat addition. The Line Out allows you to connect it to your stereo. The Ipod USB port allows you to sync it with your computer. These ports are a welcome addition to a device in this price range. |

On top of the cube you have the Ipod dock. Like I said before it does come with various dock adaptors that will fit most Ipods. Since this speaker retails for $49.99 on Amazon.com I was wondering what the sound quality would be like. I was pleasantly surprised that it sounded pretty good. Now it’s not going to win an audio award that’s for sure. But it played pretty loud and I was expecting much lower audio quality than it was delivering. I turned the bass knob all the way up and wished it went even higher. But overall I was impressed what this little speaker could do. I wish this system used batteries as well. It would make it a great portable system. But you only have the option of plugging it in. With its cool styling, cheap price and decent audio quality I have to recommend it. If you don’t come into it expecting great audio quality I think you will be happy with this little system. Recommended |
