Recently I had the chance to review some new portable speakers from Logitech designed specifically for the Ipod. The name of the speaker system is the Pure-Fi Anywhere compact speaker. This speaker system is to replace the mm50 speakers from Logitech. The Pure-Fi Anywhere is a 4 driver speaker system. It measures 13.25” wide by 3.7” tall by 1.6” deep. You can get it in black or white. The speakers come with a remote and an AC adapter as well as adapters to fit almost any Ipod. The system has metal feet that flip out to keep the speakers upright. One of the big advantages of this system is that it comes with a rechargeable battery that Logitech claims will last for 10 hours on a single charge. They also include a semi-hard carrying case. When I first opened the box I thought the case they included was really nice. It provides a solid way to carry the speakers. On the speakers, Logitech has included a variety of buttons to control different functions. There are dedicated volume controls, as well as shuffle, repeat, 3d-sound and a power button. They have also included a level indicator which lets you know how much of the 10-hour charge you have left. This is really a smart addition. When using the remote I was able to get pretty good reception from a fair distance away. I have a 3g Nano and there was not a matching dock adapter included in the package. So I had to use the white one that came with the Nano. That’s fine but it would have been nice to have a matching black one. |

With speaker systems it definitely is all about the sound. I was not expecting huge sound in a travel speaker system, but I was pleasantly surprised how good this system sounds. I listened to James Blunt’s 1973 and it sounded great. You could hear the warmth in his voice. It also had surprisingly impressive dynamic range in the highs, mids, and lows for a speaker system of this size. The system was able to play quite loud without distorting the sound. I would think this would be the perfect system to travel with. First of all is its size, which is still pretty compact. Also, you could set it in your hotel room and it would provide enough sound for you in the room but not too much that the hotel staff would ask you to turn it down. I have talked about the positives, so now I will talk about a few negatives I had with the system. One thing I noticed is that there is a delay from when you push the button on the remote and when the corresponding action happens on the Ipod. I find this a little annoying. But it’s definitely not a deal breaker. Also I really dislike when manufacturers make the face of something you have to touch a glossy surface. It becomes a finger print magnet! It looks nice having it all glossy and shiny, but I would take a flat black over the glossy, because I think that would be easier to keep clean. These are very minor and should not detour you from what is an overall great package. |

Overall the Pure-Fi Anywhere speaker provided superior sound for its size. It gives you great portability all in a small package. So if you’re someone who travels a lot and wants to bring your music with you, this would be a great addition and is well worth the asking price. I found it on Amazon for $99. Logitech has a definite winner here for the portable market. Highly Recommended. |
