Movie

Sitting down to watch Accepted, I had high hopes this would be a good movie.  I had seen the trailer in the theater and it looked like a fun teen comedy.  The movie is about Bartleby “B” Gaines (Justin Long) who doesn’t get accepted into college.  So to fool his parents he decides to create his own college.  He has his friend Schrader create a website for the school, to make it seem real.  Schrader makes it so real that other people show up when they don’t get accepted into college.  From here I think you can see where this movie is going.  You put together some friends that are not cool, the token overweight guy, and a lot of girls in bikinis and you have Accepted.  It had some funny moments, but not enough to make me recommend this movie.

Video

The movie is presented in a 2:35:1 aspect ratio.  They did a pretty good job with the transfer on this film.  Since a lot of the movie takes place outside in the summer, there is a lot of colour to be seen.  Greens and blues dominate the outside of South Harmon and look great on this DVD.

Audio

The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1.  Since this is a comedy don’t expect to get a lot of great surround sound effects.  The dialogue comes through clear even when the music is played loud.  Speaking of music there is a lot of it in this movie, and all the songs fit the college lifestyle.

Extras

Again I was hoping for some extras that would help make up for what I thought was not a great movie.  Again I would be left waiting.  Most of it was mind numbing fluff.  The first extra I watched was “Adam’s Accepted Chronicles.”  I guess he was trying to be funny, but it came off as just being stupid.  If I had to pick a favorite extra it would have been Reject Rejection: The making of Accepted.  But again not much is learned here other than the fact the director was surprised to get the job and that there were a lot more people qualified for the job.

Overall

This movie just was not funny.  I think I may have laughed once, but I can’t be sure.  I am sure there are some people who are big fans of the American Pie series that will find this amusing.  But I can’t with good conscious recommend this flick
