Product Review:

Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000

My parents were looking at getting a web cam to be able to communicate with relatives that live far away.  They had no idea what they were looking for in terms of specs.  I had never owned a webcam either, but I had a pretty good idea of what to look for.  So I decided to contact Logitech and review one of their better webcams.  Enter the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000.  What makes this webcam special?  Well, for starters, it has a really decent lens.  Logitech partnered with Carl Zeiss.  They have been producing quality lenses for cameras for a long time.  Also, this webcam has a true 2 megapixel sensor built in.  That in itself sets it apart from most of the webcams on the market.  Plus, it has what Logitech calls HD video.  This is not true HD, but it is really high quality compared to what is on the market (actual size is 960x720). Then there are the standard technologies that are included with most Logitech cameras like RightLight and RightSound.  It also has a premium autofocus system and an ultra wide field of view.

So there are the features.  But how does this webcam perform.  I have to say my initial experience was not great.  The cam has a very sharp picture which is a plus.  But I had difficulties getting it to work properly with Windows Live Messenger.  Now this may not be the webcams fault, but I ended up fixing the problem with an update to the quickcam software.  My parents actually bought a webcam before I could tell them about this one.  It was a Microsoft brand, but in comparison to the picture quality of the 9000, the Microsoft cam was nowhere near as sharp.  One thing I liked about this cam was the way it attached perfectly to my monitor. It would attach to pretty much anything I would imagine.  The software that comes with it has the usual bells and whistles.  I particularly liked all the video effects such as giving myself a pig nose or turning me into a pirate.  For some reason for me these never get old.  I thought I should also tell you about the minimum specifications for the cam.  On Windows Xp the minimum is a P4 1.4Ghz or the recommended is a P4 2.4ghz.  Now I am running Vista and the specs are even higher.  The minimum is a P4 2.4Ghz or the recommended is a 2.8hz.  My system just barley meets the minimum.  That is probably why my video has a slight lag.  So if your system better meets the requirements you will be all set.

I have no problems recommending this webcam to anyone.  It has great features excellent image quality what more could you ask for in a quality webcam.  I think that Logitech has hit one out of the park with the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000.

Highly Recommended.
